On behalf of Attwaters Jameson Hill posted on Monday, November 7th, 2016

Security Door Systems Ltd from Purfleet have been fined £6,000 and ordered to pay costs after a maintenance engineer broke his elbow when he fell through fragile ceiling tiles at a site in Dunton, Essex.

The engineer was attempting to access an electrical control panel in a ceiling void when the incident happened. He had tried to make his way across ceiling panels, using a wooden ply board as a work platform when he fell more than three metres.

Basildon Magistrates court heard that the company had insufficient risk assessments in place for undertaking work at height on the site in breach of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
